  Come meet up with Soul Trak climbers to climb on top rope. Find a new climbing partner or come with your belay partner! ** For this program, belay certification is required. If you know how to belay but are not yet certified at Movement Gyms, you can take the belay test on the day of. **

  If you are member at Movement, you don’t need to sign up as it is still a free event. For non-members, it’s nice to have them signup and pay in advance. 

  if you do not sign up in advance, you can still be added to the event the night of and get the discounted entry fee of $20. Just make sure to mention you are here for Soul Traks event so the Front Desk team knows to add them to the event and charge them appropriately.

  Join Soul Trak for a fun Family Fishing Day outing along the Anacostia River as we host a special fishing event tailored for all families. Our Family Fishing Day is an opportunity for families to bond, create lasting memories, and enjoy the thrill of angling in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Bring your own fishing gear and join us for a day of angling adventures suitable for all skill levels. Whether you're an experienced angler or trying your hand at fishing for the first time, our event offers a fun family bonding activity along the Anacostia River! We are inviting fishing mentors to the event to teach people how to fish. 

  We will also be embarking on a boat tour of the Anacostia River, led by our friends at the Anacostia Watershed Society. Learn more about the river and its history, as well as what is currently happening to restore and steward the river! There will be two boat tours available. 

  We will divide into two groups: one group will embark on the Boat Tour at 10:30a for 1 hour, and return at 11:30 to do the fishing lesson. The other group will do the fishing lesson first, then the boat tour at 11:30. We will all come back together at 12:30 to close out and reflect on the new experiences on the river!

  Join Soul Trak for a Youth Adventure Week in Shenandoah National Park. Over the duration of one week, the group will set up camp at Big Meadows Campground, complete service projects for the park, attend educational ranger talks to learn about the history and natural environment of the park, and spend time exploring the park through hiking and visiting points of interest in the park. The goal is to connect DMV youth with a local national park, in order to foster stewardship for public lands and diverse representation in the outdoors. 

  Who: Youth aged 11-15 are invited to register and apply. If you have participated in Soul Trak’s Youth Adventure Cohort, Soul Trak/KIPP Program, or other Soul Trak programs, come join us for an adventurous week! 

  Key Programs:

  • Camping 101: Learn the basics of tent camping and setting up a comfortable outdoor camping setup. We will be cooking all of our meals on camp stoves, and making sure we keep a clean and tidy campsite. 

  • Learn Leave No Trace principles and general best practices for camping. 

  • Complete service projects for the park and learn about park stewardship. Projects could include trail maintenance or campsite beautification.

  • Attend engaging ranger talks about the natural and human history of the national park. 

  • Learn about Black History in Shenandoah NP: Lewis Mountain Resort

  • Naturalist talks: Learn about the native flora and fauna, geology, and waterways. 

  • Astrology: See the stars at night!

  • Explore the park through hiking excursions and visiting Shenandoah’s famous waterfalls. 

  Schedule: 

  Monday 6/23: Transportation provided from DC, leave Monday morning from Anacostia Park at 8:00am. Drive to Shenandoah National Park and arrive at the campsite, where we will have lunch and set up camp. Meet Park Rangers and Shenandoah staff to receive an orientation on the park. 

  Tuesday 6/24: Spend the day around Big Meadows Campground. We will participate in a morning educational program, afternoon service project, and attend an evening ranger talk.

  Wednesday 6/25: All day hike to a waterfall!

  Thursday 6/26: Morning Service Day, Afternoon Educational Program, evening hike.

  Friday 6/27: We will close out the week by presenting youth participants with recognition of their service to the park and status of Junior Park Ranger. We will depart the park in the early afternoon to return to DC, arriving around 2:00pm.

  Costs: 

  Soul Trak will cover the cost of all transportation and meals, and provide camping gear such as tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads. The $25 registration fee will ensure your registration and go towards providing group supplies.

  Participants only need to provide their own personal gear for the week, including appropriate clothing and layers, hiking shoes/boots, day pack, and toiletries. A more detailed list will be provided during Orientation. 

  Orientation: 

  Youth Adventure Week Orientation will be a mandatory in-person meeting in early June. We will go over the week’s programs, provide information on what you will need to bring, and answer any questions.

  Do you want to spend your afternoons on the river, learning to maneuver a kayak on the river, and enjoying all that the river has to offer? Join Soul Trak's Whitewater Kayaking Club, instructed by Calleva River School. 

  The course will consist of four 4-hr kayaking sessions on the Potomac River. The program is designed to introduce the club members to kayaking and the skills to maneuver on the river safely. The program will take place on Saturday afternoons from July 12 - Aug 2, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Riley's Lock (lock 24) on the C&O canal, located in Poolesville, MD 20837 and Angler's Inn 10790 MacArthur Blvd. Potomac, MD. Additional practice sessions on Tuesday evenings with Calleva are available to participants, and highly recommended, at no additional cost.

  The program will provide participants with a unique opportunity to learn white water kayaking on the Potomac River, which is one of the premier places to learn to paddle. Participants will be accompanied by experienced kayakers from the Canoe Cruisers Association who will provide volunteer support and ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on the water.

  While the ability to swim is not required for this course, participants should hold a high level of comfort in the water and be able to stay calm if they need to remove themselves from the kayak in the water. You will be submerged under water to practice certain kayaking maneuvers, so be prepared to be completely submerged in the water for each class. One of the main objectives of the class is to be able to "roll your kayak", meaning being able to flip a kayak back over after being submerged underneath while still seated in the boat. 

  Participants of past Kayaking Clubs are welcome to join this class as well - Advanced Beginner instruction will be provided alongside the course. 

  Participants are advised to wear sunscreen and a hat and bring water. It is also recommended to bring a towel and a Zip loc or dry bag to keep belongings dry. Please note that all kayaking sessions are weather dependent and will proceed in light rain but may need to cancel if there is heavy rain, lightning, or strong wind in the forecast.
