Off Campus Adventure with HBCUs Outside, Soul Trak, Deanie The Yogini, and REI
Saturday, August 23, 2025
3500 Water St NW, Washington, DC 20007
Soul Trak is teaming up with HBCUs Outside, Yoga Instructor Adina Crawford @DeanieTheYogini, and REI to host a kayaking and yoga experience for HBCU students at the Georgetown Waterfront. Students will kayak for one hour-long rotation, and participate in a guided yoga class for the next rotation, or vice versa. Lunch will be provided.
Activity 1: Yoga with Deanie the Yogini
Balancing academics, living away from home coupled with social adjustments can create pressure. This class is designed to offer simple tools to help with stress, improving focus and foster a sense of wellbeing.
Gentle Yoga - An all-levels practice preparing the Mind, Body and Soul synchronizing our breath with various breathing techniques and incorporating gentle Yoga flows to stretch our bodies combining a series of postures with gentle slow-paced poses. The softer aspect of the process allows each student to be more aware of and present within. The goal is gaining a better understanding of how-to breath, stretch and find balance in the Body. The class finishes with a period of meditation and extended savasana. This class is designed for all bodies. Limited mats will be provided for use.
Activity 2: Kayaking on the Potomac
The Potomac is one of 2 rivers that make up the diamond shape of DC, the other being the Anacostia River. There are many kayaking and paddling opportunities in DC, so we aim to introduce students to an easily accessible outdoor activity as they form their sense of place in DC. We will go over basic water safety and kayak maneuvering, then students will be free to paddle up the Potomac. Be sure to stay close to the shore and only go as far as you will be able to paddle back. Soul Trak staff and volunteers will be on the water to provide guidance and direction.
Be prepared with:
Closed toed shoes
A change of clothes and/or towel
Sun protection
Please do not bring anything on the water or in the kayaks that you do not wish to get wet. Be prepared to get wet or splashed a little. All students must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD aka Lifejacket) at all times on the water.
