Seneca Rocks Multi-Pitch Climbing Opportunity

Soul Trak and Seneca Rocks Climbing School are excited to present an advanced climbing opportunity at Seneca Rocks, WV. Multi-pitch climbing is a type of rock climbing that typically takes place on routes that are more than a single rope length (circa 50 to 70 metres) in height (or distance), and thus where the lead climber cannot complete the climb as a single pitch.
Seneca Rocks is one of the best-known landmarks in West Virginia. These rocks have long been noted as a scenic attraction and are popular with rock climbers. The rocks are a magnificent formation rising nearly 900 feet above the North Fork River.
The climb will take place on the 17th (day subject to change due to weather), and expect to spend all day on the wall climbing; bring an extra layer for warmth/weather protection as well as water and snacks.
We are advising folks to camp at Seneca Shadows which is 15 minute walk from our meeting point. Basic knowledge about climbing knots and practices (material covered in the Outdoor Climbing Club and Introductory Climbing classes) is required. We will begin with an orientation which includes a review of knots and belaying techniques used in multi-pitch climbing, an introduction/review of rappelling, a look at removing gear placements, and look at the multi-pitch system before starting the climb on Sunday.
For those who want to avoid a long drive in the early morning, we will camp at nearby, Seneca Shadows camp, which is a half mile away from our meetup location on Allegheny Dr. Soul Trak can provide camping gear and help with transportation. Participants need to pack meals for the duration of the weekend, including meals and snacks for during the climb.
Cost: $190 per person. Participants will also be asked to contribute a blog post about their experience going from the Outdoor Climbing Club to the Multipitch Climb, and sharing a message to other future climbers of color!
